Common questions

Contact a solicitor as soon as possible before making any statement to police. Do not answer questions beyond identifying yourself. The earlier you obtain legal advice, the more options are available to you.
In some cases yes. A range of options may be available depending on the offence, your personal circumstances and your criminal history. These include section 10 non-conviction orders, dismissals, and in some cases charges can be withdrawn following negotiation with the prosecution.
A section 10 of the Crimes (Sentencing Procedure) Act allows a court to find a person guilty but not record a conviction and impose no penalty. Whether you qualify depends on the seriousness of the offence, your circumstances, your criminal history and the strength of the prosecution case. We assess this for every client.
Our fees depend on the nature and complexity of the matter. We provide a clear cost estimate at your first appointment. Legal Aid may be available for serious matters where you meet the financial eligibility criteria. We are Legal Aid approved.
You are entitled to represent yourself, but the consequences of a conviction — including licence disqualification, fines, community service and imprisonment — can be severe and long-lasting. A solicitor can negotiate with the prosecution, present your case effectively and in many cases achieve a significantly better outcome than self-representation.
